"What's Going On"

Marvin Gaye Wasn’t Asking a Question. He Was Checking on the Pasture.

When the pasture gets tense, the sheep don’t scatter. They slow down and listen. They watch how people move when they think no one is paying attention.

That’s why the flock went back to What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye this week - not as a protest anthem, but as a way of taking the temperature of the field.

This isn’t a song that shouts. It doesn’t demand allegiance or try to win an argument. It opens with conversation - voices overlapping and laughter drifting in - before anything resembling a message appears. It sounds like people gathered together before they realized how heavy things had become.

The sheep recognize that sound. It’s what the pasture feels like right before trouble becomes undeniable.
